Bundy74 HCU Comp Log

Well the innner struggle continues and hopefully in a few weeks I will be better equipped to determine which division I will shoot for this season. Call it foolish thinking but if you truly dont believe you have a shot to win then there is no sense in competing so with that philosophy its crucial that I believe in the frame size if I do intend to compete in Classic Physique this season.

Had the chance to peep out the Ronnie Coleman Classic over the weekend and more than anything paid close attention to
DIVISION “C” (OVER 5’ 10”, UP TO AND INCLUDING 6’0″)
Over 5’ 10”, up to and including 5” 11” Up to and Including 200 lbs

Recently I have questioned my size and how likely I am to compete in the division if I truly dont have a chance to place..ive got to admit that thought has weighed heavily on me as I went thru alot in the off season putting on some size in the first place but more than that is the idea that you just didnt hit your mark and for me thats just not an option. I mean to endure the constant pins and diet and workouts it cant be for nothing so back to the show. I saw that size and mass is almost subjectable in the sense whats "big" to you may not be "big" to the next judge..you get the point, but conditioning is undeniable. I took some time to go back and study and watch some Frank Zane stuff and that really sealed the deal for me as to know at 187lbs he knew it wasnt the size that would make him stand out against the monsters of old. Better yet I watched some stuff on Danny Padilla who in his case his shortness was his issue but in his mind he said he always carried himself like a 6 footer. Nonetheless after seeing some average competitors and great ones as well I knew I could still hold my own. So although in my mind I may question overall size, I realize what I do with the size that matters. You can walk on that stage at a maxed out 200lbs but if the conditioning isnt there than at that exact moment the size no longer matters.
Other than that its been the daily grind.Yesterday was chest day and ive began to really focus on upper chest development and overall shape and hardness of the muscle.

Yesterday was leg day for me and I tried something very different. At this point in the prep its not a matter of creating massive wheels, that window has since closed so its all about definition and cuts at this point.

Yesterday was a rest day for me and what I have began to realize and more importantly what I have truly started to appreciate is the mental break needed while on a prep. Last season I didnt mind grinding my head and body into the ground as I figured it was the struggle and price to pay to really compete. This season not so much. I realize the mental fatigue is often just as great as the physical and from time to time you have to get your mind right. The expectation level is so much greater this go round so the mental wherewithall often gets put to the test. I recently had to explain to someone that im not admiring my muscles in the mirror..im picking apart my weaknesses which is always tough for us as humans. Its hard to put those flaws on display and day in day out just dissecting yourself. Nevertheless its the grind so ive been finding the days off to be beneficial as I find myself doing manual work to keep the tank moving and on the flipside its a nice getaway from the daily hustle. Not to say im at the end of my rope or anything but I enjoy sharing these points as so many assume its all muscle in this life..so its good to give others a peak into whats going on behind the scenes.
Other than this things are going great. I enjoy this new bit of size and as the body has started leaning out im seeing more of the guy I recognize! My workouts have hit a solid point and im really pleased with the regiment at the moment.
Its all coming together now its just a matter of nailing down the finer points of the frame before I step on stage for the first show of the year.

Stay well brothers! Thanks for reading and I appreciate the support!

Man you nailed it on the head. I hate the looks I get if I'm checking myself out in the mirror. I'm not thinking "oh man everyone come see how good I look"....I'm saying "fuck, my triceps need more work".

While this is a very selfish hobby IMO, it doesn't mean it's a conceited hobby. We do this because we see flaws, not perfection.

Well after a couple of days away from the board..im back. First and foremost, I really wanted to touch on the gear. I have t date,no issues to report. I have still not had any pip or other issues related to pins and likewise the gear has still run smooth and easy. On the flipside, Ive got say the liquid orals are what have taken a toll on me. The battery acid taste is a killer for sure. But nonetheless, the Var is doing its job so im happy!
Over the last few weeks as ive started to shed away the extra lbs and can see what the gains ive added since bulking, ive really been enthused about entering a new division. As I mentioned before, my mind is really set on conditioning and my target weight of 200lbs is still in tact so its all about showing the best frame in the upcoming months.

Still moving right along. Sitting at 200lbs at the moment and feeling strong and lean. I am about to go back to two a days as I really dont like dragging out my workouts too long. I find two a days allows me to be fresh for both workout sessions.
Ive began working on my posing for this division as before the physique dudes just make a few 1/4 turns so its great to be able to move the crowd with posing and music.

Thanks my man and honestly for whatever its worth your transformation is damn inspiring! May see you on stage one day!

I remember a time when I was a young squirt just learning my way around the gym and can recall never keeping track of sets or reps. Just pushing or pulling until I felt the muscle was exhausted or I couldnt do any more. Well today was one of those days. I felt like working out but really didnt want to be stapped with my notepad and scorekeeping. It was a great feeling just bouncing around from machine to machine and just focusing on the muscle and motion of the movement. I would say I was still in the 10-12 rep range but again my focus was on the movement itself. It was liberating to say the least.

This week has been a blast! I have at least for this week dropped my journal and been freestyling my workouts. Its been so great and honestly been confusing the body as theres no rhyme or reason as compared to the standard set and rep counts and excercise order. For example yesterday was a giant set of DB Incline Bench with a no rest double set of Reverse Preacher Curls. FOllowed by Wide Grip Pulldowns x Tri Kickbacks. Just been fun to get in there and not keep count but rather just blow it out. Not to say this method will stick around long term but its been a nice change and the body has been really confused to say the least!

Im sure ill be back to a normal split soon as I still have an objective to meet but nonetheless this week has been full of great workouts and even more importantly a nice mental break.

Stay well bros and have a great weekend!

I do the same as well Bundy. Breaks the monotony. It's nice physically and mentally to mix things up. I honestly think some of my best workouts and or variations have come just by winging a workout for a break. You're doing great man. Loving this log too.

I have been having a blast lately. I have still been leaving my journal behind and focusing soley on muscle movements and contractions. My body has responded well to this technique even though it goes against everything ive ever done before. Its just fun to get in the gym and bounce around and change things up. Dont get me wrong, there is still priority to body parts and I am very aware of actual workout days but ive essentially just dropped all the counting. I have also incorporated FST into all my training and have been emphasizing calf and leg development. Although my calves have never been an issue and even on stage were popping at 17 inches but I want to make sure the wheels are in carved up for the Classic trunks. As such ive been hitting certain leg movements multiple times a week.
At the moment I am still sitting at 200lbs and gear wise everything is still on point.

recently dropped primo and clen but will bring them back as prep continues

I apologize for my lack of posts recently, but honestly there comes a point in which everything is just on auto pilot so that makes for a pretty repetitive journal for sure. Nonetheless I find a certain honesty and accountability in keeping a log, its as if you can lie to the world but you cant lie to the book. That being said, ive recently abandoned my journal and have been freestyling my way thru recent workouts which has been great mentally and physically as its just been a constant mix up of movements. I still don’t track reps or sets but rather its all feel these days. Generally speaking the workouts are falling in the hour and a half range plus cardio. Again recently ive been back to two a days and have increased my daily cardio. Other than this ive been intaking quite a bit more carbs than previously but I also find myself much fuller at the moment. For the most part im right about 200grams or less every day. SO far its worked out to 3 days of carb loading then 4 days no carbs.
For the most part at this point its all mental. My thoughts are full of minute details regarding my body, posing, music and the stage. More than anything, most recently ive been consumed with the idea that what started out as a means to change my middle age look has now become a full time job in which the pursuit never rests. Its simply never ending. Its like all of a sudden theres purpose behind every rep and additional pounds being moved. Its like all of a sudden theres an actual expectation placed on you even its placed there by you but its there. All of a sudden, good is not good enough and seldom do you appreciate the accomplishments because your constantly distracted by perceived flaws.
I want to speak openly for a moment and for those who have got to know me over time know I try and be as humble as possible so bear with me a moment on this one. I recall a time when I would see a guy in the gym in think ahh man how can I get leg like his or arms or whatever..truth is seldom is that the case now, more often than not, im the one getting looks and im humbled but at the same time it becomes one of those things in which the challenge becomes finding that hunger internally. That hunger to keep going even though you don’t need to. At times ive had talks with myself in which its like damn im 43 what do I need to be carrying on for..I can hang just about anywhere and feel good about my physique, yet its not enough and you just carry on because that’s all you know. You start to tell yourself those last few reps are what seperates you from the next guy. The truth is though it’s the guy staring at you in the mirror who is the biggest competition of them all. Theres no hiding and unfortunately in this case, perception is not reality and you are forced to deal with your demons head on. For me its been tunnel vision this year especially since the challenge was to jump from Physique to Classic which also means I can compete at a max weight of 200lbs which is 16lbs up from last seasons stage weight. So fyi im at 200 and have been for weeks now while keeping at sub 8% body fat. I have to admit, this season ive been much more lax with my carb intake as I have upwards of Dec to compete with at least 1 National Qualifying show going down every month so the pressure of time hasn’t been a factor and I can really prep until I feel like I am stage ready and have a legit chance of walking away with some hardware. The time to prep alone is huge as last season I really did only have that 12 weeks to prep which was great but for this jump in division im trying to really come in locked and loaded so I love the fact time is not an issue. It really is a throwback to just going by feel and not the date of show. If I have to wait for the Cup at years end I will, on the flipside if I were to truly believe I can get the W in a few weeks then im in, its just all about the look and feel.
SO im back to where we started..eating, breathing and shitting this life..thats it!
Thanks for reading and stay well brothers!

Well although ive been somewhat silent on the board im still moving forward with prep and thinking about my jump from Physique to Classic. I have recently been freestyling my workouts and have really not been keeping my typical gym training journal but this week will see me back at a more traditional approach which will also allow me to post my day to day as I work towards the stage.
Stay well brothers!

I update my gear use, my changes but I am always in a hurry always.
I do freestyle too.
I know what muscle group it is and that's it when I start once warmed up a heavy weights pumping, I am a fiend for the pump, and my heart beating and pushing with little rest always a couple reps away from feeling like u will fallout but knowing when to back off.
Lol!
I couldn't keep a journal like this no time to write or type, and after by the time I eat and start recovering and able to move from the fatigue I just caused I am then busy with job and too many other things.

I have a plan it's to blast that body part it changes and I never know what u will do next!!! That us my rythym and the earphones are loud I speak to no one!
Lol!

Only issue with free styling a workout is most people will hit what they feel like not what they need. I have numerous clients that come to me and they use to freestyle there workouts and wonder why there weakness were not getting better. Once I set up there workouts they had no choice but to hit those exercises they hate and weaknesses become strengths. Just my 2 cents to this.

I hit the hard ones and I follow u. My biggest weakness is diet. I love killing it and I guess it's an ego thing cause I do all the stuff that makes me uncomfortable that no one wants to do.

I agree with u, though our old brain and muscles wanna be lazy if we let them and take easy way out!

My deal is I am 42, and don't wanna get any bigger really. At 5'8 I would like to cut to 6% and be 195-200 instead of 186-190.

But your 2cents means the world and is true. My life is so busy I can't put time I need to in gym so I gotta do alot in short time to fatigue muscle!!

I go back and forth to routines. I always been a high endurance guy and I usually do alot if kick boxing and Muey Thai.
When I get set up with AC in my dungeon again I will start that up again with strength training and muscle overall size training cause I need it when kick boxing to hold size but I get ripped and love the endurance training!
